Oh well, at least it was easier than trying to find a system with suitable lighting to snap a picture for my signature.

Edit: Added some layers over the hair for additional graininess. It's very subtle, but it's there.

On a related note, notice that the light-bluish color of the hair is attributed to the overall artificial lighting of the picture (something that must be taken in account, otherwise the hair look out of place).

Ermm. open photoshop, press W, select the hair, press ctrl+u, play with hue, saturation. save.

if w doesnt capture hair correctly, select magnetic lasso (toolbar shortcuts to the left, 1st column, 2nd tool, right click, select) and do the rest. =)

Actually, here is a quick help for you

its a quick retouch. In order to create a great looking hair, it needs some serious time due to the blue filter on the image and due to hair being hard to create.

While in theory that would work, white hair imply more detail, that (in the case of most compressed, low bit-depth sources like the one provided) are lacking. Not to mention that simply changing the lightness from the color mixer (or brightness/contrast) or inverting the color amplifies any compression artifacts.

Of course it does, it is quite obvious for anyone who is into graphical design, its like graphical design 101 =) However, for someone who is not into it, it is merely a trick to get a somewhat useful outcome instead of paying for a hair color.

Well, it's not like pixels cost too much :| And I did this mostly for fun, not as a way to gain ingame credit.

To be honest, my eyes completely bypassed the payment offer the first time. I just fired up the GIMP and started editing.
