We didn't have the online player list for the longest time. Not sure exactly what you think we will learn from turning it off that we don't already know. As for the in game player list? It can be modified to show something other than system. Instead what house a person is in perhaps. I'm not a fan of total removal of it though. To many systems for the small player cap. I don't play here to only chat with NPCs. Be it shooting another player or being shot or pirated by another player, I'm here for the interaction (Yes, sometimes the interaction sucks).

Maybe, you can still see who is online, but next to their name is a question mark, if they are not in your system.
This way more interaction is required to actually send out recon fighters, and delete spys etc in adjacent systems.

You do understand that 200 people can be online at the same time and pretty much everyone of them can be in a different system. That is how many systems this mod has. I think changing it to just the house or region they are in is fine.
