I just happened to notice that Nuclear mines are overused at the moment.
And by that I don't mean there should be other mines, but I think guns should be primary weapons.
As it is now, it's much faster to kill a fighter with nuclear mines then with weapons.
And that would be alright, but what we get is pretty much a Nuke-spam field once the fight begins.
Not always, of course, but too much anyway.
Problem with them compared to 4.84 is, as I see it, that they are no longer an instant killing device (meaning no more 'soft' vanilla ships), but they are even more powerful then before.
So, when you were using a Vanilla ship in 4.84, you would be extra careful when you drop the nuke.
Now you don't have to be that careful. The other guy doesn't either, unless it's a HF.
So, you pretty much get a dropped Nuke per pass, or sometimes even more.
What I'd like to suggest is:
Making Nuclear (and other) mines to use much more energy. Like, 4-5k for example.
Maybe adding some more damage to it too, to some 23k.
Some ships would die instantly, some wouldn't. That would make a huge difference, I know.
But even if it stays 17k/8.5k, you'd get people actually thinking when to drop a nuke, instead of just dropping it mindlessly.
So, if you want to spam nukes, you won't be able to shoot your guns. In a bomber, if you are to spam nukes/screamers, you won't be able to fire a SN.
You could still drop two in a row, of course, but that would cost you your whole powerplant (in a VHF), so you will actually think when to drop it to surprise your enemy.
I can't see it hurting any current balance, except for slowing some fights down a bit, but that can be fixed by simply improving their damage slightly.
Also, I am of strong belief that ships like Chimaera and Katana should either die to a single Nuke, or lose their own Mine launcher.
As it is now, you can bring 5 chimaeras against almost anything and beat the hell out of them.
And losing the Nuke launcher on those ships would actually make sense in RP, because they are simply too small to carry all those bombs.
They are feather-like fighters, how can they be the same as Templar, or Werewolf for example.
Thoughts?

Well, never used mine, never been bothered by people who spam them, so easy to dodge.
But you did make an interesting point: fighters like Chimaera having same ammount of ammo as a big Templar. Even more light fighters, etc...
A question though. Is the Chimaera better than the eagle as for agility? I've never flow one, but was looking at the stats, and has more power output. In that case...

The Chimaera is a teeny bit slower than the Eagle, but only because it's smaller.
Nukes are fine as is. If they are being spammed all you need to do is watch out a but and chuckle at your oponent's failing tactics.
@Akura, I agree the nuke is the most effective weapon against light fighters but then again a light fighter isn't meant to go anywhere near its target...
Theres nothing wrong with nuke mines. Their damage output is fine as is, you just have to avoid them. I mean look at the name of it, its a nuclear mine, you wouldnt want to run into one would you? Leave them be.
I never said I had a problem evading them.
And likewise, if You do use them properly, you won't have a problem with them draining a bit more of your energy.
It's simple, really, guns should be your primary weapons, mines are additional equipment.
And if you read carefully, I didn't ask for a nerf, I just thought about some tweaking.

Of course I wouldn't. That's why I said - make it more powerful for more energy.
Honestly, I'd be enormously happy with each and every VHF dying to a single nuke.
But that's not gonna happen, since people don't like dying. They prefer having a chance to run to their respective bases. Or fighting for hours, which I despise.
In 4.84 you'd learn to avoid Nukes pretty fast, simply because you would die to a single one.
Make a mistake and you go 'poof'.
