Well, but for dreaming it up. My PC gets FPS issues in fighter duels without Bloom and on 1064x768x16... so gigantic battles PLUS some recording program running equals death for my computer.
So, yeah, I just quickly jotted down my little idea here if order for other people who want to maybe make it, change it, etc.

3D rendering and scene creation software (Lightwave, 3Ds Max etc) are capable of rendering and animating multiple models. If you decide to do it this way, it'll be an amibitious, skill based and time consuming project. Although I've seen Freelancer videos like this done by a Youtube uploader Why485.

Why485's one of the best Freelancer modders in the world. I've looked at some of his stuff, and a lot of it's proof of concept things that showcase Freelancer's engine.
It's a hell of a lot more powerful than one might think.

No, seriously, it's not THAT hard ... all the models are easy to extract, they are low on polys and the textures are not that big and detailed like in Quake4 (just an example:rolleyes:).
The difficulties will be the exact timing, all effects (weapons, explosions, engines, lights, nebula, trails, debris ... they should at least hint towards the proper effects used by those ships) and of course ... waypoints/movements of the objects (not only the models of the ships, but also turrets and projectiles, even if the latter can be created with emitters and "destruction" zones for the particles around any vessel)!
Oh, and did I mention sound effects? :D
The original textures can be equipped with bump maps, they are not that time consuming, especially if you know that only 2 military forces are going to fight, so in your case, only Rheinland and Liberty vessels need to be "bumped" ...
