Never seen it stated or implied by anyone with any real authority that mounting a Transport shield on a freighter-class ship (such as the Camera or Turanic) makes that ship a transport. Fact is, those freighters couldn't even handle hostile NPCs if they didn't have the really good shields.
It has been stated many times that mounting a Gunboat shield on a transport (such as a Liner) makes that ship a gunboat. Again, this has never been stated or even implied (as far as I've seen) by anyone with any real authority. Of course, it's a bit of a moot point since there aren't going to be any transports that can mount Gunboat shields in the next version. I believe there are still freighters than can mount Transport shields, which seems to imply that doing such is acceptable.

Holy cow, I was looking at the Kadesh:P
OK so the Kushan probably should be switched to HF shields like the Collector, or have its maneuverability knocked down a bit and keep the transport shields.
I still maintain that the transport shields on the few freighters that have them are there for good reason. If the concensus is that some are too powerful then they should be adjusted individually, not termed an "exploit", as many ships are simply worthless without the better shield.

Bah. The arms race continues... players have bigger guns, so people need bigger shields. Which in turn means even bigger guns, then even bigger shields...
I've already stated that I'm all for removing the level 8 shield slot from the small transport, Armored Transport, Kusari Lux Liner, and any other bloody freighter or transport they fit on.
As to the Raider and the Kushan, they've had level 7 shield capability for as many mods as I can remember.

Well after a day's worth of responses and further reading of all links posted as well as threads found on my own, I'm convinced that not only is it prudent to mount the best shield I can find on a Turanic Freighter, it is fully within the RP framework that I have experienced and read about.
If someone has a compelling argument against that, I would genuinely like to know it. Otherwise, I'm going to spend some credits and protect myself.
Thanks for the lively interest by all parties.

I found it strange that your shield was going down so quickly. I did not realize you were not using the transport shield:D. Was a fun chase, I'm Glad you jumped to hamburg finally and got away. Would of hated to have caught you when you made a mistake and killed you after all of that work trying to get away.
Also, those were just Xeno and Civy guns. I hate nomads, and I hate codies even more!

Get a grip.
Why so hostile? The Turanic -does- need the transport shield because it maneuvers like crap, no argument there. But the Kushan doesn't need it as long as it gets class 10 HF. Don't really care if they change the Kushan's shields, but to be true to the pattern they probably should.
Either way, transport shields on freighters are as intended by all indications so, Xoria, enjoy your 70,000 points.
