Tech chart says that LPI can use everything that the navy can, except for caps.
There's really no reason for them to have to have their own shipline anyhow :/

People miss a lot when they look at FL organizations as being exactly the same as a "similar" real world organization. Trying to fit them in these limited models will only cause a lot of suffering and lessen your enjoyment of the game.
An American from some middle-upper class suburb has a completely different view of Police then say a villager in Tibet or Libya. However, I digress.
The point I've made in the past is that some of the FL organizations may on the outside be labeled as being similar to RL organizations but in actuality are composites of many different organizations. The LSF and LPI being the two I am most familiar with.
I'll stick with the LPI example.
To me the LPI are not just some local police but an amalgamation of the Police, FBI, DEA, ATF, & CBP (aka Customs and Border Patrol).
They also do not operate in the actual USA but Liberty...which is massively different than the present day.
Think equal parts dystopian future and wild wild west.
Criminals today are very limited in their arms and armaments. The most heavily armed ones might have body armor or an armored car. Maybe a heavy machine gun mounted on a fast speed boat, an RPG or 2, some grenades or IEDs.
In FL Criminals fly around in the equivalent of stealth fighters and bombers. They command aircraft carriers and battleships. They roll in with tanks and mechanized infantry support.
If the LPI wants to have some tanks jebus, god bless em. If I were them I'd be petitioning my local senator for a couple Death Stars with Lazzor's.
Did no one see this brilliant post? This times a million.

Using light fighters as our main ships is what makes the police factions different from other factions.
I can understand differentiation, but what I don't understand is willingly choosing inferior stuff just to be different. The tradelane scanner network is a much bigger differentiator than ship type will ever be, so it's time to stop using inferior technology, I think.

You ever tried to shoot a Libby swarm EK'n all over the place?
Only one out of 4 fell that time, and because it was the RP.

Sorry, but Libby swarm > Guardian trio.
They are Golden Snitches if used properly.
Sure, but for things like interdicting smugglers, which is the majority of what I end up doing when I'm patrolling on my LPI, you only need one VHF, while a single LF wouldn't be enough.
People are a resource, and it seems to be to be somewhat inefficient to tie up multiple people on a single patrol in order to ensure effectiveness when you could have individually-patrolling officers capable of handling minor issues on their own, or calling for backup if needed. You get better coverage of your house space that way and make more efficient usage of your people.
Basically: Why use two people for a job that only needs one?

Thanks, I try:P
Quote:If LFs are SO USELESS, go make a poll asking to get rid of them.
They're not useless, and they're getting buffed in .86. They work great for a strategy that involves throwing superior manpower at a problem, which is fine when that's available.
Quote:And really, does Teamwork mean nothing anymore?
Take your VHF and try and outmanuver the 22nd. BHG Sea Serpent LF users.
And I've,seen a Libby pilot fight three Outcasts at once.
Dont give me that LFs are a sure way to die.
Try TEAMWORK.
Teamwork's all fine and dandy, but as I already pointed out:
' Wrote:Typically when I'm online, there aren't any other LPI on, so that plan wouldn't really work for my typical playtimes.
Since I end up being on late at night when server pop is fairly low, and there aren't any others online, "teamwork" isn't a viable thing for me to rely on. The LPI's ship restrictions don't reflect that you can't always have two or three people flying around in formation on patrol and that individual officers should be able to be useful on their own.
I'd like to think that I have pretty decent RP and am a step above "ur cargo is ilegal drp plz" or whatever. I've been invited to apply to the LPI official faction by a couple different members I've worked with in-game, and I think it might be kind of interesting to try out the "official faction" thing for once since that's one aspect of Disco that I haven't explored yet. However, as long as the LPI is restricting people to light fighters, it's not going to happen.
That's really all I'm saying--it's a personal preference on my part, but the restrictions the LPI are imposing don't really make sense to me, and that's the main thing preventing me from signing up for the official faction--official factions should enable members to expand their roleplay, not limit it. Seems like kind of a lame thing standing in the way of joining, I guess, but there you have it.
