"To gain a hundred victories in a hundred battles is not the highest excellence;
to subjugate the enemy's army without doing battle is the highest of excellence."
Friends, today I recieved a distress call from our brothers in the LWB. I undocked my bomber to find two Ghost pilots (one flying a crow and the other a raven's talon) fighting two LDDLG pilots, who were piloting a GB and a Fighter. I quickly stripped the shields of the GB with my Debilitaters, and with the distraction of the Ghost pilots, it soon fell to my Novas. Then we went after the fighter. That took us more than half an hour as the only hull busters we had were my novas. Then another LDDLG fighter shows up. Myself and one of the Ghost disengaged and engaged him. In a suprise move I once more engaged the first fighter and put a nova down his cocpit. Seeing this, the other fighter fled. One of the Ghost gave chase and downed it eventually.
End Report.

It has been a very eventful two days...the Captain and I ran into difficulties retrieving my Marauder. Namely, the RAB and SCRA. We landed on a neutral base to discuss our options, as the enemy was blockading the area nearby. We decided to run for the Freeport on the other side of the system, with the Captain going first to act as distraction. Luckily, it worked - by the time the enemy got permission to fire, I was out of range, with the Captain following not far behind.
We made it to the Freeport, where I was able to get my fighter and outfit it with passable, if not impressive, weaponry: four class 8 chainguns and two class 4 photon guns. But without shield-busters, it was apparent that the Coalition bombers would be difficult for the two of us to defeat; but fortune was again on our side. Others came in-system, and became engaged in an argument with the SCRA forces.
We used that distraction to flee the Freeport right under their noses! About halfway to the jump hole, however, the Captain bravely fell back to engage the enemy, in an effort to keep them from following us. That was where our good fortune left us; I waited a few clicks from the jump hole in Omega-41, safely away. Of a sudden, the Das.Starke.Feuer burst through, bombers in tow.
Captain: Run!!
I complied; that was his last transmission from the gunboat, which was destroyed seconds later. The bombers were hot on my heels as I fled through a minefield to the jump hole on the other side of the system, taunting me in an effort to provoke me into a futile fight. I was not about to let the Captain's sacrifice of his gunboat be in vain, however, and I reached the jump hole just two clicks ahead of the enemy.
That was when a group of allies I hadn't known were nearby came to the rescue, rushing into the Omega-41 system to engage the enemy. I know they were Kusari, but beyond that know little of them. After that, the journey the rest of the way back to Vogtland was uneventful, as was my trip to Omega-11 to acquire some heavy lasers.
I spent the night there, and set off this morning for Liberty space, intending to use my good relationship with their police to buy a pair of advanced debilitators. En route, I encountered and destroyed a convoy consisting of two Humpbacks and their Hawk escorts, as well as a Train that was trying to dock. I tractored in what cargo I could (though the Train was empty), and destroyed a storage depot at Alster shipyard on my way out. All told, I brought home 15 captured pilots of various stripes, some H-fuel, and silver.
That was when I was contacted by one of our Ghost allies, a fellow by the name of Nightblade. After a bit of conversation, he mentioned that he had plenty of guns that he could simply give me if I returned to Dresden. How could I resist such a generous offer? I did so, and good as his word, he met me in a heavy transport loaded with goods. He was even good enough to give me the Skyblast B's I wanted, and a Discovery Scanner.
After I'd equipped my lovely new weapons, Nightblade got into his Viper fighter and offered to train with me, as he wanted some practice. I hadn't much experience in my Marauder, so I agreed. After the first few salvoes, however, a red blip appeared on our scanners: a Rheinland bomber, carrying Neutral ID. In spite of his ID, he was shooting our Hessian guard ships, and was carrying Hessian pilots in his hold. We asked him to leave, and to drop our pilots. He refused, and continued attacking our guard ships, so we engaged.
It wasn't a long fight; he couldn't get a good bead on us, nor on our RLB ally which had entered the area just before the fight began (Wolf). The bomber pilot fought well, but I don't understand why he fought at all. If he'd dropped our pilots and stopped attacking the other Hessians, we'd have left him alone. But he pressed the issue, and refused to answer any of our comms, so we were forced to destroy his ship.
Since our ships were still in near-perfect shape, Nightblade and I continued our training session after that. In spite of the Marauder being more lightly armed, shielded, and armored than the Viper (Marauder=HF, Viper=VHF) we were quite evenly matched. The fight lasted for nearly half an hour, and in the end, our shields were down and we were both down to the last 5% of our hull. It could have gone either way, but Nightblade got the last salvo and defeated me. It was an excellent fight, and good practice!
I was, however, somewhat disappointed in my Marauder's wide turning radius. I don't think it can turn much, if any, sharper than the Viper. Does have a slim frontal profile, though, and I suppose that helps. At any rate, I'm quite glad to see we have such skilled and generous allies to aid us in our cause.
Today, the Rheinland Military decided to launch a foray into our space. One of our comrades fought a single RM fighter, and drove him off or destroyed him...only to be jumped by two more. I launched quickly, but our brother was unable to give me his location before they took him down. From his escape pod, he was at last able to give me their position, and I sped to avenge the loss...though somewhat foolishly. I should have known my Marauder would be no match for their two Wraths; one heavy fighter vs. two very heavy fighters, but I went anyway and fought as hard as I could.
I had nearly destroyed one when they went into cruise; I turned away, thinking the battle to be over...but at 2k distance, one of them turned back and began launching missiles. I believe they had cannonball missiles, or something similar. This was the one that I had not been shooting at, and as soon as I started hitting him his wounded comrade returned to the fight with rapidly charging shields. It was in the moments after that that I was hit with my shields down by one of those blasted cannonball missiles, and forced to eject.
I apologize, both for my failure and for the fact that I let my temper get the best of me. I should not have attacked them without assistance.
-Rimfire.
(OOC: This was my first solo PvP fight, and I must say it added to the adrenaline to know there's real people on the other end of those two fighters. Even though I lost, they fought well, and agreed that I had, too. It was interesting - and an initiation of sorts. I don't feel quite so squeamish about the idea of PvP fights anymore. =P )

We tried. That much I can say. Our staunch ally, RLB Wolf, contacted me earlier today from the New Berlin side of the Frankfurt jump gate. I reminded him that the RM would be able to tell we were in system before jumping in, but hoped they might be too weary from battle to notice. So I joined him there, with the intention of harrassing RM forces as they returned from repelling some sort of Corsair battlegroup.
After the chatter of battle died down, though, they did not come. Fearing they were resupplying before returning home, we decided to take the offensive and go through the gate. Wolf went first - but no sooner had he jumped than three RM pilots came through! Wolf engaged fighters on the Frankfurt side of the gate, and I, with a cry of "For the Fatherland!", engaged the fighters on the New Berlin side.
I do not know if they were resupplied, but their ships were undamaged. At least two of them were Wraths...I managed to damage one of them before their combined fire - and that of the jump gate's plasma turrets and several merchant escorts - threatened to overwhelm me. I went into cruise; they did not pursue or try to knock me out of cruise.
It was then that I noticed Wolf's plight. He was trapped in Frankfurt! I searched the nearby asteroids for a jump hole I could use to reach him, but alas, before I could find it his fighter was destroyed and communications ceased. I hid in the asteroids until the remainder of the RM forces returned to planet New Berlin to celebrate their victory, then slipped into the Frankfurt system to retrieve Wolf's escape pod. Thankfully, the RM hadn't noticed it, or simply didn't care, or their holds were full of captured Corsairs.
So, we harrassed them, but it was a last-minute effort against odds that were simply too steep; and we were separated, which was the final nail in the plan's coffin. I doubt they'll even mention Wolf and I's attack in their logs...but we learn from our mistakes, and become stronger with every encounter.
