This makes me rather sad. Because I know that Phantoms weren't just a kill on sight faction. I mean, one of you guys used to terrorize my miner (when I used to mine) in Dublin on a regular daily basis, never took my cargo or money, just role played, I mean, it's what made the boring mining fun...
The Phantoms idea in my opinion looked like a carbon-copy of every "revolutionary" Faction such as the:
Blood Dragons
Lane Hackers
Bundschuh
But what made them different is that their revolutionary status does not apply to a single house or territory. It was Sirius wide since the ultimate goal was to destabilize current human society and controlling governments. The motto was after-all to "reset the world".
Anyways, my point being that in the end, the goal they tried to aspire as a Faction was nothing "new" and the methods to accomplish this in a community such as Discovery and the combined game-mechanics limitations of Freelancer as a game itself, made the aspiring goal impossible to even execute anything further than causing some PR-problems for a few Factions.
Furthermore, the old Phantoms were just a bunch of independent characters with a Terrorist ID banded together under one organization or name. But, if you observed closely you would notice that each and every former member were only forwarding their own personal story, the one they wrote to enter the Phantoms to begin with.
In the past, it was never a real organization, and the operations conducted had nothing to do with forwarding the former Phantom Goal. The current changed version, although more ambitious, fun and creative, is simply impossible to play through in a realistic manner in the game which we play in.
Finally, I find it absolutely HILARIOUS how so many of you are crying that this faction should be revived and you are only doing it because finally you now have a chance to receive all the privileges you couldn't get before, and had been for decades complaining about. Now all of a sudden this Faction MUST be revived and you all want to forward its "grand Role-Play". Oh please, you just want what you couldn't have in the past and therefore the Phantoms are "great people" again. Yeah you forgot those 15 pages of Feedback whining you helped contributing to when they were still killing you and denying your applications.
The idea could've been fantastic. The Phantoms are just a relic of a server that doesn't exist any longer. There's only so many times you can go out with everyone hating you and shoot things. It's fantastic if you want to mindlessly shoot things, but I'm here to roleplay, and that's really tough to do with the stigma that the Phantoms has behind it.
I think this rewrite was the best thing that could've been done to try to revitalize the faction. The only problem with a terrorist group is that we can't really pull any strings without it being perceived as metagaming. I was only with the Phantoms a short time, but I realized pretty quickly that's how things were going.
So, yeah, it was novel. It was nifty at first, being a part of the oldest faction on the server. It just doesn't quite work in today's roleplaying environment, though. Not with our player base.
Jack, while I see you're trying to 'save' the faction, I get the distinct feeling that it's more that you just refuse to let it go. The guys who'd had it over the years certainly tried. I'm not going to say for certain that what you're trying to do will fail, but all you're doing is following in the vein of the previous groups - creating an amalgamation of existing factions with a little more grump behind it. That kind of things gets very stale, very quickly.
So, it was an experience. But it wasn't one that I think warrants still being preserved. Let it go, wrap the lore up, and call it a day. The Phantoms are little more than a name any longer.

Who said that I'm trying to create the same thing that the previous Phantom leaders made?
Seriously, making rushed statements like this are annoying to read. And I refuse to let the Phantoms 'slide down'.

Then good luck being another Pirate faction.
You haven't been around long enough on this Server to understand why the Phantoms need to disband.
By the way, I'm not saying this to be against you. Remember that I was the one who got you into the Phantoms to begin with.

I never said you were trying to create the same thing as what was present, I said you're working in the same vein. You're pulling from roleplays that already exist on the server in the form of other factions.
As Sina put it, the current Phantoms are a combination of most of the revolutionary groups, just with a Sirius-wide range.
To use your own words,
Quote:The Phantoms are now being developed and re-configured as an intelligence faction, with a mix of what the Order is doing, and a mix of what the LSF is doing. If any of you has ideas for a new phantom faction, please feel free to contact me over on Skype.
So you're taking the roleplays of existing factions, and giving it a Sirius-wide range. With a little grump, I'm sure.
Do me a favor and read my words instead of assuming my meaning. I've been reading your posts, I'd appreciate if you could do the same for mine.
Crude attempts to grab the various benefits that come with a ready-made terrorist faction that couldn't stay active despite its own shipline? Not bloody likely.
