We all know that now carriers are just a fancy word for the usual capship, nothing more, nothing less. Cannon's post got my hopes high that one day we might see the player ship doking thus making it a bit uselful, but it's not here now and i don't know when it can possibly come.

So. The one way to make carriers - carriers, and also deal a bit with some other problems, is removing bots from capships while bumping their hull accordignly but leaving some bots for carriers to ressupply fighters and bombers around.

And here's another - what if we could have a command for carrier spawning good npcs, some fighters with 9 guns or some bombers (yeah yeah with snac and infinite core) every n seconds/minutes? NPCs are not really hard to deal with but they'd give immersion and could possibly change the tide of battle if used in the right time. To prevent abuse, spawn them without bots.

Any other implementable ideas?

If i recall it correctly i once made kind of the same suggestion in one of the several "make docking possible" threads.

I think the major answer has been that the spawned Fighters will just spin the spawning Carrier around.
Also high-level Npcs are a pain for bigger ships, whilst most snubs simply ignore them.

[font=Comic Sans Ms]Wait and see. There was an official thread last week that listed the features coming out in 4.86, amoungst them player dockable ships.

You probably didn't read it fully. It said that those feautures are either done or are being worked on. Basically, it was said that it's possible, not that we're going to have in in 4.86.

The fact that we might have player docking ships in some time ranging from 1 day to a couple of years doesn't mean we don't need something carrierish now.

I wonder why people don't read the second sentence in the very first paragrapth in this thread.

What you're asking requires an alteration to FLHook - the generic "hack" to the Freelancer server to make more options available. This takes time. It is being worked on but "one day to a couple of years" is the best the devs can do for now.

Your other proposals... Spawning a load of NPCs has the same drawback, requires FLHook alterations. And altering ship statistics requires a mod alteration, so that too would need to wait until 4.86. They're all fine ideas, but cannot be implemented on-the-fly.

I know, and the point of this thread is to think of some ideas easier to implement in, say, 4.86, than a complete player ship docking, to act as a placeholder for carriers while actual docking is being developed. I guess my suggestions are pretty basic and that's why i wanted to hear from other people if they think of something, but i guess nothing else is going to be suggested, oh well, such is life.

Removing regens from carriers just doesn't sound right. It couldn't be balanced, way it is now.

Edit: And spawning NPCs would make lag, I think. Imagine 30 players decide to spawn NPCs at same moment, in same system.
