So it's great that you got rid of the Harris abomination of a trade route. By why on earth wouldnt Crete sell artifacts? It doesnt make sense. Was it an intenanal decision?
So it looks like there are only a few places to get artifacts, leon and Cadez, and Battleship Fez, along with Casablanca base for some reason. Those along with Hawii and The Hogosha depot. If there are no artifacts in Gamma, there is no reason for traders to bring needed commodities to Crete.
And it even says in the Crete info window that it was the very first thing the corsairs from Crete traded with ...

from what was said, corsairs have become quite rich by trading allready. maybe the sites at which they dig out the artifacts has simply depleted. after all these years i d also expect them to get over their food shortage. they don t have a biodome yet, allright, but they have access to quite some planets - and they have an exclusive protection duty for omega-49 to protect gran canaria from bretonian influence.
maybe the corsairs trade has to change in general a bit. less specialized on artifacts export and food import and more focussed common goods and raw materials. outcasts and corsairs have become a stable force in the omicrons allready, far more than "just pirates" - they are allready states, unlawful but still powerful enough. - i just can t see corsairs being starved to death - they don t appear so pityful anymore to me.
@Jinx: I agree, but even if the mines on Crete were spent there would still be young Corsairs going into the Malvolo cloud bringing back artifacts. Plus, it is sort of a counter to Malta's Cardamine, even though Cardamine is worth more to ship, artifacts on Crete have always been iconic.
I think that Omicron Gamma, as a system, looses something when you take away the artifacts. It makes RP sense because the Corsairs would want to attract traders.
On another side note, perhaps the Corsair and Outcast ID could get changed? It has the basic pirate ID specs which says we can't ally with lawful forces, yet we do anyway. The Order and SCRA just to name a few, and that has caused problems. As Jinx said, Outcasts and Corsairs are two nation-states, even though they do pirate from the bigger houses.
Sorry I didn't bring this up before, but I hope later is better than never. :)
"The thirteen saloons that had lined the one street of Seney had not left a trace. The foundations of the Mansion House hotel stuck up above the ground. The stone was chipped and split by the fire. It was all that was left of the town of Seney. Even the surface had been burned off the ground.
Nick looked at the burned-over stretch of hillside, where he had expected to find the scattered houses of the town and then walked down the railroad track to the bridge over the river. The river was there."
I think it is important for crete to sell artifacts, why else would traders come to crete with food. Also it would make sense to raise the buying price for food on crete so that at least it is somewhat profitable to ship food there. I'm not saying it should be a major trade route, but at least that way people who want to RP delivering badly needed food to crete wont lose money on the deal. It make sense though, Corsairs do have money from the trade in artifacts, but dont have food, they would pay well to get it.
We need to move away from fossil fuels so perhaps God should release a beta where there aren't any refineries in the Middle East. Cause that is the only way that you sto a lucrative trade from happening. Its profitable, they do it. Especially if they're ulawful.
