I don't give donations. If I find a new player in a fighter I ask him to scout for me, explaining why I am having him do this and explaining his role as a scout to him. If they are in a transport I'll offer to show them some generic routes. That is if I am on an OSI character or my single indy trader. If I am on a merc I hire them to assist me in my job. Be it luring in a target or distracting someone for me. If I am on my pirate I teach them how to pirate. In all cases I try to point them to a player faction that does what they are most interested in doing.

once i gave a completly setup gunboat that way. why, he wanted it . dude is still playing
only one thing i ask for those creds.
Spread the help around sometime.
Hm, I helped a Liberty Gunboat with Freelancer ID in New Tokyo once. Explained to the player WHY he can't be there, shooting stuff in the capitol system of Kusari and what other gunboat he can fly with his ID. Said he hadn't enough money, so I gave him 4 million which should've been enough. I was wrong, the player still couldn't / did not want to buy the Ahoudori, and left Kusari to fight Rheinlanders in Munich. He was stopped in Sigma-13 by a RM bomber and asked for my assistance later on and complained that he was attacked:D:rolleyes:
I think that's the last time I stepped over my donation limit:D
So ... be careful with whom to give such a lot of money;)
sometimes I want to start a scratch char and just roam around for fun,
I be getting donations, those I send to my bank, when I be the one giving donations,
Ive only ever once donated money to a new player, and she turned out to be awesome, and is now one of my best friends.
But, honestly, im wary of handing out money - dont want it to go to waste, as well, something given has no value - having grinded my way up from a rhino, this lesson is important to learn. If you cant get past freighter trading, you wont get far in disco. just my thought *shrug*

That's a GOOD thought.
I had a look at what you can get for 100k, working on the premise you haven't told them to use the /restart command.
For 100k you can - upgrade to a Star Tracker (one up from Starflier), get a better shield than the installed one, upgrade guns.
OR
you can - upgrade to a Rhino freighter, put the best guns/turrets available on it, upgrade the shield and still have a bit left over to buy cargo with..... I think.
Don't quote me on that.
I used FLStat to get the numbers, so they might not be correct, but I bet they are darn close!
Edit: Who knows what ship & gear you get if you use, say /restart liberty?
