Now, I know this is just a game and it shouldn't be taken seriously. However, this community is my escape from the stresses and problems of real life and I am sensing a great disturbance in the cohesiveness of it.
How many posts and threads have we all seen lately of people saying "This is not fun anymore, Im leaving" or "I've had it"? Why I ask. I ask that you all bare with me on this, it may get a little long.
First, I hear and read the complaint that the rules are too much and that it seems as if everyone is more concerned with hitting the "report violation" button then actually helping people. Now, I completely agree the whistle blowing has gotten a little out of hand. But, as far as the rules go? Well, I seem to remember that a lot of the same folks that are now complaining about the rules are the same ones that were complaining during the OORP fest we had a little while ago and were calling for stricter rules. Is the rule and violation system we have now perfect? Certainly not by any means, but what system of laws is. What would happen if the Admins got sick of it and said fine, fend yourselves, and we all just had a total chaotic free-for-all? You would all hate it, trust me. What I'm trying to say is, you can't have it both ways. I've never personally been sanctioned *knocks on wood*, but if I were, I would take my penance and be done with it.
Maybe it's the whole DIC thing that has turned alot of folks off. I personally was one of the strongest opponents of them coming here the way they were. But, as is my way, I calmly suggested to their rep that the way they wanted it would not work. He ignored that suggestion and basically said "this is the way we are, take it or leave it." The majority of us decided to leave it. If this is the reasoning for disliking our great community, then, well... For the most part we gladly welcome new ideas here, if they're sound and if they work. Again, do you all want a free-for-all with the new factions too?
I don't know what the other problems could be, but these are the two that I have heard the most about. I for one am so glad that I found this mod and this community. I have met a lot of great people and developed some what I would dare to call freindships. I hate seeing this deterioration of the community, especially since I dont fully understand what is causing it. I dont really know why I posted this or what effect it will have, but I needed to just throw this stuff out there. Now, maybe I'll get flamed here and maybe not, either way, I got this out in the open, and I do feel a little better.

ON MY WAY OUT OF RETIREMENT
a lot of time...I cry.
This place makes me sad.
disco is ill...and, I thought it was the oorp...
but, our medicine is a bit poisonous, too..
and...everyone is angry.
leaving...
disco...when I joined...had a sort of spirit to it...
everyone wanted to be here...liked it.
liked new people.
that spirit...is sortof dieing..
it is beginning to remind me of wow.
I would venture that many of you are convinced that Discordianism is indeed a "joke disguised as a religion".
But, inherent in the joke are some precepts and observations that sombunall will recognize as having some truth.
A word on "Balancing the Chao":
Discordian philosophers have observed a process which can be summed up thusly:
Imposition of Order = Escalation of Chaos
and conversely,
Escalation of Chaos = Imposition of Order
Do not worry. This process seems to be naturally-occurring, and for the most part self-regulating.
The extremes of this "wobble" in the Chao are of course more evident than the overall effect of maintaining a balance between Order and Chaos.
We are currently experiencing one of those extremes. But which one? Well, it's sort of like quantum physics. The observer determines the outcome of the observations. Sort of like Meiun. He has observed our environment from his "tunnel reality", and finds it good. Other s have grasped anothe part of the elephant, and found it disconcerting.
My advice would be to kick back. Work on your own "tunnel reality", rather than trying to impose either Chaos or Order on your neighbor's. And did someone mention "common sense"? Generously applied, you will find that it works wonders.

I don't get why people get of on spouting rules left right and center, i think ive made one sanction report since ive been here and thats was only because i was pushed to it, i tried to tell him not to dock and i got allot of crap in reponce.
Even yesterday i tried to tax someone in sig 13, i tried to tax a trader, he cruised of, i gave chase, 2 minutes later he disappears (F1ed out) it really pissed me of and i was so close to making a sanction report but then i thought whats the point? id already wasted nearly 40 minutes of ingame time trying to talk to the guy when he reappeared 10 minutes after f1ing out, why waste anymore.
I really like this community for the most part, i don't like all the rule play instead of role play ingame but you get that pretty much everywhere so i just try and not take notice of it.
I no i probably do it sometimes ingame but what i try and do is stear them in the right direction if there doing something wrong, not report them.
I could also probably be accused of some of this "flaming" (flaming is a strong word, id call it giving someone my opinion) of new factions, but some of them are so laughable its hard not to. But i will try and stop doing that.
I think everyone needs to take a step back sometimes, is getting one over on that other faction/player really worth it? it is a GAME after all.
I don't know. Back when I joined and now I don't see much difference to be honest. Perhaps because I don't go far on forums and read only sections I'm interested in.
Personally I don't see any catastrophe here, it seems to me that some people just tend to make as if there is something horrible going on. If they want to stress the community with shocking "door-closing-sound" I don't mind. People come, people go. Cynical, I know. But people come mostly for their own personal reasons and leave because of the same on their own.
I don't care for people coming out in game quoting rules (sometimes non-existent) in system chat. I don't even bother to respond, that's not my problem if they don't know the rules, I know rules myself and that's enough for me. If it's a clueless new player who seem to be a friendly one I don't hesitate to help. But if it's yet another person on a battleship I'm not wasting my time arguing. Simple enough.
People tend to make a stress situation when there is no reason for one.
In my opinion the problem is the ATTITUDE of the members not the rules
In the past when somebody was doing something bad people where telling him and explaining him that he broke a rule. The violator apologize, end of the story no one get reported.
but now you see this
OMG I'M GOING TO REPORT YOU TO THE ADMINS!!!!! YOU'LL BE PWNED!
Ex: Before, seeing people with a FL ID at lvl 45 was common and tolerable, we were just telling them to change it and they were following our advices but now they are getting sanctioned because of that...
The rules are fine but they should only be applied to those who don't care about them (ex: the DIC), And I don't think it is necessary to give more work to the admins for no reason.
All of us break a rule sometimes ( ex: ME just look at the sanction forum lol ), just because we simply don't realize what we are doing or we just forget the rule. You know we're just humans.
I do respect the rules the best as i can and try to make people respect it but I'm patient and lately we have a lot of newcomers so we must be patient with them too.
I'm with Meiun...sorta. Bad stuff has been happening. I've just seen one of my favorite factions get torn apart due to the abrupt departure of its leader; but though it's a blow, I'm still having fun. Of course, I've only been here about a month and a half, but still. Mal is right, everything cycles. Noticed it in my own RP forum, too, for that matter.
