For those who dislike engine kill, may I suggest not hitting the 'z' key?
As far as the interdictor mechanic goes, one of the key things I understand about Interdictor-style ships is that their anti-jumpdrive generators create a constant field for as long as their are active. A huge AoE invisible CD would not have the same effect. CDs disrupt cruise for a mere fraction of a second which is sufficient to keep a ship in place due to the charge up time of a ship's cruise engine, whereas a interdiction field is a constant effect that would not just disrupt a cruise engine, but prevent it from even initiating cruise charge up while within the blast radius. If we wished to replicate the interdiction effect to heart, we would need to implament a huge AoE invisible CD with a near instantanious refire and (perhaps) no ammo limitations. To be honest, though, I think such a mechanic would work better if we didn't try to replicate the continuous interdiction effect, but rather stuck to the idea of a normal CD with a huge AoE and an invisible blast radius (And, perhaps, near zero range.)
