We just sent a new version of the mod out a couple months ago, so naturally we have an influx of new people who are completely ignoring the forums, downloading it without reading the lore, and all the get rule wise are those chat pop ups in game saying not to reengage.
We do advertise as an RP server, but we do have several major conflicts that people are dying to get into without bothering to know what is going on.... the Liberty Rheinland War...the Corsair Outcast conflict (even though now it seems to be Corsairs VS Hessians because they never fight the Outcasts in the Sigmas anymore) and the Gallic war. Same thing in the Omicrons with the Order and BHG, this is what happens when you stick the two factions with some of the best ships together in one room... people will want to fight there without bothering to know why. And how do they do that? Silently mine or powertrade, using numbers, profit VS loss calculations rather than routes that would in RP benefit their group, crew, or corporation... I have seen Synth Foods ships hauling capacitors and Interspace hauling artifacts with Kishiro IFFs. They see trading as a stupid necessity, the bad thing to counteract the really awesome feeling of finally getting a battleship...which they do not know the first thing about playing or even flying one. And then they name it something stupid like LNS-Drop-that-booty or RNC-Donuts which makes me cry inside.
Frankly I do not know how to limit the amount of stupid on the server. We will have powertraders, lolwut red dead engagement players....etc. We could limit capital ships to wait on approval again, and make all corporate IDs official faction IDs to prevent anyone but them from getting the 'best' tradeships. But ultimately these ideas would both offer very little in return for a ton more work forum, moderator, and admin wise.
