Orcus and his brother Fidus approached the BAF recruitment building, the smog thick around the twins, the re-breather's on their faces the only thing from keeping them from gagging and vomiting uncontrollably from the toxic air. There was a bustle about the building, as they had expected; the constant threat of another invasion by enemy forces into the system had recruitment at an all time high.
I know mom and dad would be proud of us...
Orcus and Fidus couldn't look more different, Orcus was tall, lanky even, and had thick long brown hair, while his brother was shorter and well built, with a short cut to his charred black hair. Regardless of their physical differences, the twin's thoughts were the same as they entered the building.
... If only the rest of our siblings thought the same...
Their older brother Janus had served in the Bretonian military for a time, running black bag operations for almost 10 years before he became disillusioned by the same invasion that had inspired his brothers. He had become sick of the constant, needless warfare between the houses, and left with their older sister Sim to the outer regions, forming a trade conglomerate based in the Tau systems dedicated to some mysterious goals.
"What do you think the chances are that Jan and Sim are cool with us doing this is?"
Fidus interrupted his brother's thoughts on their older siblings with a nervous laugh and an equally nervous question.
"They'll kill us when they find out, Sim may even tear her hair out."
His response was glib, and even brought a small chuckle to both of their lips, but it was hollow. They both knew that none of their siblings would approve, not even their youngest sister far away from all of the conflict in Cambridge doing research, but, they had decided, this was what they needed to do.
"Well... there's no need to stand out here in the smog all day, if we do maybe they'll see us out here and then we'd really have something to worry about."
As the nervous chuckling ended, he realized they had been idling outside the doors, and after speaking with a wry smile, he nodded to his brother, and they pushed open the doors together, embarking on a path that would forever change their lives...
