nomad gear in 4.85 was overpowered, not all of it, but some of it
what was even worse is that it was abused by people who should have known better. ( 8 GB turret scorpion - or rumor has it human snubs with nomad cannons, rather than the converted nomad blasters/cannons )
nomad gear in 4.86 is at the very TOP end of the scale. there "may" be factions that can match or outdo nomad gear with funny combinations, but most factions are bound to have worse. ships like the voidrunner were nerft HEAVILY - but what do you expect?
do you think it was fun fighting --->
- a LF with by FAR the highest agility of ALL ships
- the HIGHEST possible VHF reactor core that not even most VHF possessed but only the largest and sluggiest VHF
- 3 lvl10 guns that matched VHF 4/2 setups - along with the highest projectile speed, good range and excellent burst damage
- a lvl10 LF shield which is pretty equal to a lvl10 [any snub shield]
- torp tube ( at least i think it had ) - combine that with the 15500 core and an agility that made it turn faster than a solaris turret
- high base hitpoints
of course something like that gets a massive nerf and not just a little nudge.
anyway - keep in mind:
vanilla nomads had:
- weapons that used nearly no energy at all - but had a slow projectile speed, low range and low damage
- nomad ships often came with an innate cloak BUT they had rather low hitpoints and .... no shields, actually no mobile nomad object has shields. ( and no, they did not regenerate their hull by any passive means - but they probably did not take radiation damage in the remote systems they appeared the most )
- in order to even stand a chance against the much more militarized humans, they had to resort to deception aka "the wild"
in other words - other than the retconned extended video, the nomads are not known for their military power at all. they are known for traits that do not contribute to the pvp aspect but only to the RP aspect. they make your best buddy stab you in your back. but they do not walz into a capital system guns blazing ( in the campaign, that was the order doing so )
