Today, of course corporations with things like fighter planes and fully militaristic vehicles wouldn't be approved of by hardly anyone. However, we're FAAAAAR into the future on Disco, and pirates and criminals have greatly increased in strength.

Simple fact is, corporations will increase in strength as well to counteract the strength of the pirates and criminals fighting against them. In this case, they would be getting their hands on some capital ships.

Don't bring real world examples into Disco related discussions, because simple fact is, they don't fit. Disco takes place almost 1000 years into the future. THINGS ARE GOING TO HAVE CHANGED.

Power is power, 2013 or 818 A.S. Politics is concerned with the distribution of power - we agree that politics would in fact be a condition of all societies past, present and future?

Then please re-read the post I made, particularly the stuff regarding politics, and re-think your argument - i.e. regardless of the actual need of any corporation, it would just never happen because stake-holding states wouldn't and couldn't hand over sovereignty just like that.
