elitism...I've gone there before. My way: Server is titled an RP server. Thats what its for. I'm not saying it has to be good, I'm not saying it has to be particularly intricate. I am saying, if playerslot is being filled with a ship who's pilot cannot be explained as a person, it does not belong. It shouldn't be here. The server isn't a sandbox for people who want to try out the ships, or explore the systems. The server is for Roleplaying.
I can understand and sympathize with people who are new, or haven't ever visited the forums. But everyone knows what RP is. Every single child, in every country, has played make-believe. Thats RP. RP is playing make-believe. Some people may need to be reminded, given a bit of guidance. If you aren't RPing, you are taking a playerslot from someone who would, and you are interfering with people who do. You are making it harder for people to play make-believe, which is hard enough for an adult to do in today's world.
I'm actually against most rp sanctions, simply because I don't know if that player has developed a story for why he has what we might consider oorp guns. The rules tend to restrict RP, which is a common complaint. The rules, often enough, are there because people don't RP. The rules are an attempt to enforce RP.
What it comes down to is, Is this server, is this community an RP community?
One can RP on void. All RP takes is a bit of imagination.
But, disco is more than just a group of people RPing on a PVP server, and the only reason it is, is because the community, as a whole, is an RP community.
When I joined, I wasn't the best at RP, but I chose this server because it had the letters 'RP' stuck in the name. It looked fun. Then our dear Mal took me around, and rped with me, from the very start. Showed me how it was done on disco. I'm sure many of us here today have a simmilar story. People deserve that chance. The chance to enjoy a bit of RP.
