The other side is a base with particularly well placed turrets (I got to give props for that though) insta-frying noobs and untagged ships coming through from T-29 - it was like that from the beginning, I found out because I was helping a new player get gear for his first Sabre and that base insta-fried us both on our way to Barrier Gate. God knows how many untagged Outcast ships and Cardamine haulers that have been whacked that way.
Mind you, this is stuff you wouldn't be able to do with actual ships on neither TAZ nor Zoner ID's - I fail to see why their base is allowed to act like that. While there's a lot of stuff written on the forum regarding the base, there's also the fact that it has been blocking a vital nerve for the Cardamine/Slave industry. It's like the ZA; total disregard for regional powers lore-wise. As long as the write-up is good enough, and the factions that should care don't, anything goes I suppose.
Malaclypse freeport is not only a TAZ stuff, it is in fact a joint project between the TAZ, the Colonial Remnant and the Council. Initial roleplay prior to it's construction is still going on for two reasons: Gyps wanted to have the base up and running before his university stuff begins, and that I managed to derail the thread a bit with a private discussion between LaFlamme and Anders.
That it fired on everybody not on the list, you can thank it to the few trolling players who triggered this move, and Cannon for not implementing a blacklist feature.
And if you would have noticed, there has been communications between official factions and the TAZ about this station and why it blocks that part of the traffic. The discussions went peaceful and most of them ended in getting the relevant ship names on the list.
I frankly don't know what would have been so hard in dropping a message to TAZ that "hey guys, this base is shooting me, please make it don't shoot, my ship name is XYZ". Would that have been so hard? Don't think so, we have seen many been capable to do so.

There were even some bitterness that the sell point will be moved to a Zoner station - I mean come on, how the hell is that "good rp"? They should have pushed devs to move the sell point to a proper location (which they never did, to my knowledge), rather than build a base and shoot noobs because they can, totally disregarding the fact that it is a bug that they are the exclusive seller of that ship. Sure, the write-up is fine but it doesn't justify the actions of that base. How is getting insta-killed by a random base going to "enhance rp" and invite new players to the RP realm of Disco? All it is is an introduction to Disco power-mongering.
1.) Baffin is TAZ authority.
2.) Pueblo Bonito is TAZ sacred temple, access is TAZ only.
3.) Message TAZ any time to ask for access, I haven't seen anybody been rejected yet. (Oh, god we have to RP!!!)
4.) I'm not entirely sure about whether they contacted the Administration team about the sell point or not, I guess only they could 100% correctly answer this question.

Factions that should make a fuss in-rp choose not to because it can be uncomfortable ruffling each other's feathers; and that complacency is a real danger. People stop listening to common sense and only ever take into account both sides of the story when they are absolutely forced to.
As long as there are no regulations about PoBs, and the Administration team doesn't enforce them, I think this will work like this, and stuff coated with those so called "walls of text" will be the most RP stuff you can get out of this system.

If GRN came in the system, I guess their prime target would be that base, so really the turrets are better positioned around it to cover all angles. Otherwise, GRN could come in from other end via Rouslin to avoid that JH, then target that zoner base from back end with it's turrets further away from them, than the base itself is to shoot at. So to me it doesn't make sense to put the base turrets around the JH, other than to kill anything that comes through it in 2 seconds flat. But there's more than one way GRN can come into Baffin.
Not much thought was given to that base location, did they not think to plonk the base much further away from the Tau-29 JH, so then at least regular players could still use it as normal, why didn't they put the base near the Zoner Guard NPC base in Baffin, so that would have given it some added extra protection, with it's base turrets also.
If the point of the base to fortify an entrance, why would it make more sense to put the platform around the station rather than that entrance?
The T-29 -> Baffin hole was the only defenseless entrance to the area: T-29 -> Roussillon entrance is fortified by a minefield on the Roussillon side. GRN either tries to breach it or look for an other path. Through Baffin they would easily access both Roussillon and Coronado later, getting able to purge Council and Colonials from their respective systems. The base is currently protecting three systems from the direction GRN will most probably arrive.
Yes, pretty much thought has been given into the base location. It is good where it is. Doesn't shoot anyone who it shouldn't shoot so where is the problem?
