I wonder if that "artificial" burger tasted just like a normal burger.
Also wonder how healthy that meat is. And how close to the "real thing"...
Sadly the price is still way too high for normal use, but it's really amazing to see this progress being made.
Not just because of some "dumb meat production" (without harming any animals at all - take that, vegetarians who don't eat meat because they think it harms the animals!), but also because of the possibiltiy to one day create organs, and no longer need donors.
Hopefully the damn "ethics" people blocking such progress will also shut up one day...
If you'd read the article, you'd note that the people that DID eat said it wasn't qutie there in taste. They had to add some flavor and color to it.
Basically it was a bunch of small, slimy stuff that they piled together to make the burger.
But this is one step closer to a staple for those of us who read hard science fiction - where the ship crew talk about eating vat raised beef / chicken versus real animal stuff. While we as a society are basically indoctrinated into a 'we want it now' attitude, from the perspective of looking at things long term - we're creating and doing things exponentially faster than ever before in human history.
Communications, for example. Used to be if you wanted to send a letter from someone in England to someone in, say, California, you physically had to write the letter and send it via ship. It might take two months or more for them to get it. Now if you still send them a physical letter, it takes about 6 days. Or you can simply send them an e-mail in seconds. Or just call them up on the phone and talk to them while you're both sitting on the beach - no more wires, bulky handsets.
Used to be when we saw someone walking around talking to themselves we thought they were nuts. Now they've got a bluetooth earpiece and really ARE hearing voices while they walk.
