Because the exiles vs KNF, the exiles would loose. The KNF have no need of assistance against the Exiles and they also have no need to disturb the relationship between them and the GMG.
But the exiles do have a reason to disturb said alliance as giving up the gas fields to the Rhein in exchange for Kusari on a plate is a very good deal for them and the Krauts.
It's not really that hard to understand is it? Why would Rheinland give a toss about KNF when they have a chance at a get out of poverty card if they succeed in retaking Kusari with the exiles.
Firstly, to actually get to KNF, RM would need to pass GMG. They already lost a great deal the first time they tried to push into GMG space, and now in a crippled state they would probably lose once more.
Second, the economical situation in Rheinland is slowly getting better with the influx of trade from Gallia. Siding with the emperor would mean they are cutting that line, giving a final blow to their economy should they lose against GMG.
