If there really was an extensive use of AIs, the average fighter would have automated chainfire.

Ignoring this entire topic, all I ask is: why?

The point of slow-refiring guns is that you can carefully aim to ensure a higher percentage of your "damage potential" actually gets to the target.

That, and the fact that you can maneuver inbetween shots more with a lower refire while giving up less of your damage output.
