I'm glad you're not a mod. Moderators know their purpose and they use it well. If a thread had served it's purpose i.e. question answered, then it's locked. If it's degraded into senseless shot firing, it gets locked. In flood, rules still apply. Trial by forum is boring and such arguments can be saved for Skype chats.
Get over it.
I never said that they should never lock threads. However, I do believe that they should delete offensive and aggressive posts, rather than an entire thread simply because of one particular reply.
What I did say is that they sometimes lock threads that aren't causing any trouble or violating any rules.
And then, of course, there are people who think it's okay to attack someone just because you feel like you're on the same side as moderators. It's never okay, so don't do it. You should try discussing the actual point of this conversation instead of saying "you would be a bad moderator" and "this is my evidence, things that have nothing to do with anything you said".
I'm not a moderator, and I'm not asking to be one. That doesn't mean I can't bring up something that moderators may have accidentally forgotten over time which they might need to be reminded of, which would be that locking someone's thread, especially the thread of someone who is upset about an issue, causes that person stress. Instead of locking a thread because you anticipate the possibility of aggressive replies to that thread, you should simply delete the aggressive replies. By locking the thread, all you're doing is teaching people that all they have to do to get a thread locked is make enough bad posts with enough bad accounts and you'll just lock the whole thread.
