Before moving to Oklahoma, I worked at an mom & pop owned electronic store. We'd sell a USB device that you could plug an IDE or SATA HDD into, so you could pull data off of it. And after a while we put up a sign - these will only be returnable if shown to be defective when returned. Otherwise - you bought it.
That cut down on our returns of those items drastically ...
