Staff roles:
1. If you have any ID other than a civilian one, then you may be attacked for RP reasons even if you are at rank 1 in a starflier. I don't like it, I argued vehemently against it, but that is now the rules.
2. If you do have a non-civilian ID in a small ship, then you are running the risk of meeting players who are used to firing repeatedly on large ships before killing them. My transport requires several minutes of fire from a typical Heavy Fighter in order to destroy it. The cheap vanilla freighters can be killed in 2 or 3 seconds by those same Heavy Fighters, which can be quite a surprise to players in HFs who didn't scan carefully before engaging. This is especially tricky because the upgraded versions of some freighters and transports (Like the Behemoth and Humpback) look exactly like the weaker vanilla versions. I myself accidentally blew up a Humpback once because I thought it was a Behemoth. 2 seconds of firing and poof.
3. Get at least a universal MK8 armor upgrade on your transport ASAP. It really does make a difference to have 2.5 times the armor.
4. The four hour rule does not apply to commercial/Trader IDs that are on Freighters and Transports. I don't think that exception is explicitly in the rules, but I think it is generally understood to only apply to combat oriented IDs and ships in order to discourage revenge seeking PvP. Traders are excluded.
Solutions :
1. Stay away from hostiles. They show up on your scanners from 14k away. Use the info.
2. Call out "I surrender" as soon as you are in weapons range of a ship that can destroy you in 2 seconds and that you can't escape from.
3. Use a civilian ID until you are over level 40 and are forced by the rules to change to another one. (Ah look at that, our rules actually DISCOURAGE role-playing now).
