I feel that the standard roleplay just doesn't cut it any more, you know? People need to know right away that they're dealing with some Top-Quality Roleplay™ when I roll up. After all, I don't have the time to waste sitting around showing them it, now, do I? I've got a prearranged scripted event to go play out with four of my mates in Omicron Lost.
Plus, having such a thing would be so very helpful for identification. Like Finn says; people need to see my characters as the distinguished, unique people that I've crafted; certainly not as some mere 'Gallic Royal Navy' or 'indie GC'. It'd allow for more RP; don't you see? People need to see that my characters are special, or else they might not care! Komachi is a freebooter and space princess who just happens to come from Ainu! Like an Ainuian Researcher, I can't be expected to use an Ainuian ID, now, can I? See the difference?
Having thought long and hard on the issue, I now firmly believe that this is the way forwards for Discovery. No more shall Hardcore Roleplayers™ (such as myself, naturally - my roleplay is the Cabernet Sauvignon to the commoner's Coca Cola™, if I do say so myself) be hampered by the restrictions and fetters of the common man's ID. Finally, the recognition my highly-acclaimed roleplay deserves may soon be possible!

Your british is showing. Cover it up man, it's pretty indecent.
Jokes aside, I'll have to concur with Omicega's sentiments on this, you hardly need an ID for Researcher...and since i was there for the long years it was actually in effect, I know that it was used mostly as a passing curiosity, and never seriously by any group.
