As it is, the symbol catches the eye almost as much as the girl. That's not a particularly good thing if it's primarily an RP character sig and not a recruitment/sig combination. As far as the bronze goes, it probably wouldn't make much of a quality difference or overall appeal difference.
For the background, I would recommend a starscape, a fractal flame (name for fractals that don't look like kaleidoscope patterns), or both.
One thing to think about, however, is the path that the eye tends to follow when looking at an image (assuming that image is roughly square in shape): As a general rule, the eye starts at the top-left, then flicks to the top-right, and then moves diagonally down to the bottom-left and before stopping at the bottom-right. You can use that to your advantage when trying to communicate some sort of message or meaning. You probably already knew that, but it might benefit someone else at some point.
