The idea is interesting, but also makes me wonder about another idea. What about special units that would deploy mine-like objects that are in fact micro-turrets (still easily destructible but with more HP than normal mine and deployed only by units bigger than bombers and freighters)?
Such idea is present in the Honor Harrington universe, in which such platforms are firing missiles. They are also a more likely (real life) space warfare scenario for "space minelayer", in which these would be more satellite deployer.
