You don't understand what I'm getting at either. It's one thing to provide 'a roleplay background' that you pulled out of your arse in half an hour - it's quite another to put actual effort into engaging some sort of rapport to make the ship and/or technology involved fit both your vision of how it came out and not conflict with the common sense that these things don't just pop out of thin air. Your example highlights perfectly why I'd love to see the rule that you had to greenlight all tech with the official leaders beforehand returned, regardless of however many tears people think it would bring back. All the arguments against trying to approach tech 'owners' ooRP beforehand centre around the idea that every OFL is out to deny as many usages of 'their toys' as they can. You're painting them all as control freaks eager to stamp DENIED all over anything without even giving them a chance to speak otherwise.
