i can hardpoint it with more flexible turrets, so it has a better firearc. - a problem i find with the current capital ships is that they very often have very universal turrets. its a commen thing that turrets fire right through the ships hull - and we are used to it.

now, the problem we have with capships is - that they are fighters. we do not have unique warship weapons ( like homeworld 1/2 - where capships do not have more turrets than other ships, but they have specialized turrets, - sometimes even less ( ion frigate has only one single weapon ) ) - disco went the other way and made capships stronger by "simply" adding more and more turrets. - that way, we don t get rapid fire turrets, cause we fear people mounting 16 rapid turrets and lagging the server down for example.

the osiris body is long and thin. its not very logical that it has a great firepower to the front, cause there is no room for guns unless they shoot through the hull or one another. - it has quite some room on the side though - so a capital ship that fires .... well, there is a reason why a salvo with the most weapons is called "broadside" .... is something that i d love to see.

this is a vision though, and i m aware of it. - since carriers are only fighters, too - they don t get any unique feature, but rather more RP limitations, cause people will scream up when players fly them "without fighter cover".

ok, but to be a bit more "realistic".... yes, i can give it 16 universal turrets. - but do not underestimate 16 cruiser turrets and a BC powercore. - such a ship can dish out as much damage as a battleship with 16 turrets for a longer time while being ( in theory ) smaller.

it also has a wider choice of weapons - light mortars to start with are highly efficient, compared to mortars / heavy mortars.

the reasons i would aim for a battlecruiser basis that is actually larger than a battleship is that:
- the order does not need another battleship and the chances igiss gives them one is small i think. - besides, i agree with the people that say that a real dreadnaught is not what the order would build up.
- the idea of a carrier fits in... the order has very little space they call their own, but a huge zone of interest ( literally ) - they haven t got too many friends that and must rely on the zoners if they want to use a base. - now in RP terms, the BHG, sworn enemies and at war ( yes, its the same thing like kusari and bretonia - people often think its "just a dislike...but its an official and open war" ) has allmost all freeports occupied. its not the best idea in some places when an order expedition group wants to use a freeport as a base.

in terms of gamerules or whats possible, - there is peace on the stations, alright - but when we think of it, order and BHG wouldn t be too peaceful when they were located on the same station. - so there is the reason for a carrier....
- but a carrier has to have a certain size - and the osiris does not really provide that size. - so the idea of the carrier is to be a modified osiris that trades off the cloaking device and the reactor for mobility and room for fighters.

so where are the pros and cons:

- i look upon such a concept as a ship that is primarily a second line ship. - it should be toast when it goes head on into a fight with another capital ship. - it should be able to dish out a LOT of damage, but will not be able to take it. - but in terms of RP, it has a lot of fighters to cover it - and possibly bombers.
- it should be one of the battlecruisers with a thruster, giving it the edge over battleships that have none. with a thruster it can keep the distance to those big ships.
- the agility, turn rate and the strafing should be above average for a battlecruiser - and considered exceptional for a ship of that size. - defensive comes as the ability to keep the distance and dodge.
- it should have twice the bats / bots that other battlecruisers have ( don t know - would be something like 1200 or maybe even 2000 )
- it should really be around 50% longer than the osiris - its not logical to make a carrier that is smaller. - but i don t like to suggest a ship that makes the osiris obsolete either. - the osiris is supposed to stay the "checkmate move" of the order.
- the cargo capacity will be the same like any other battlecruiser - but for a ship of that size, it will still be easy to navigate through asteroids, cause the front profile of the ship is very small. - so it wont be harder than flying a liner.

what can i do to make it more attractive:
- i could add 4 lvl7 gunmounts with a narrow front arc ( additionally to the turrets ) - the effect is that this ship could then mount 4 gunboat foreward guns - and with a BC core... pretty much chainfire them... as long as it faces the enemy directly. - now thats a hell lot of damage this ship could dish out then. ( but still less than the liberty cruiser with its 100k damage gun ) - i do not think this would be unbalancing, but then again, its "just a feature" ... something that is fun to have, but it won t make the ship very much stronger.
- i can as i said give it a greater arc, - so that at least 10 turrets can allways fire into any direction. ( like most other battlecruisers )
- since 16 turrets is not the limit, and since we don t really have rapid fire turrets anymore, i could aswell give it 20 cruiser turrets - but i think that d be too powerful. ( besides - other factions will scream unfair and will want more turrets, too )
- i am very much against something like that - but i could aswell give it a single foreward mounted torpedo slot for actual torpedos. - that way it would fire a supernova straight forward. thats 140k damage like the liberty cruiser gun. - what you get is an identical ship with a lot more regular turrets that is 3 times as big as the liberty cruiser. - such a ship would have a terrible foreward damage potential - but would be fairly vulnerable to smaller ships. - i am doubious about the balancing of such an idea.

right, i think i wrote enough of my thoughts now, - so i m glad for other opinions.... to be honest, i have made the model. but i haven t thought much about the stats. - i have only shrewed ideas about what may work, but i am not thinking like "would i buy it then myself?" - cause i will most certainly.... not buy it:)
