I’ve been busy these days with Navy affairs. It seems new recruits shifted in and took their wings to the dangers of space. I pity them for their true and honest enthusiast. “Protecting the Republic and the Freedom of the Citizens.” Well.. That’s something I believed… at times still believe it but lately, I adopted new ideas because of my search for… to be honest, at times I don’t even know what I hope to find.

The UN and friends still push the corners and the situation with the GRN isn’t growing in a better light. I feel so pressed and … stressed out. I don’t know. Maybe this is a reason I started to look in other directions. Things got heated in New York lately, and moreover, we had the Kampetai in our space. They said they were hunting Nomad terrorists in our territory. So they claimed. I tried to find more information, but my Navy fellows already tried that. They had to do what they needed to do. After all, foreign intelligence agents came into our territory for unknown reasons. They could’ve claimed anything. I really wanted to hear more of what they knew, if they knew something.

I took my flight to Alberta right after. I reached a local Freeport. It was quite mediocre, a lot of refugees from the fringe of the Gauls I’ve noticed though. I went into the bar and I asked here and there of something out of the usual scope going around, ‘till I found this Zoner who told me something interesting. I’ll put the following transcript.

Transcript - Conversation with the Zoner on the Freeport,Alberta System

Wylde: Hey man. Some pilots over there, pointed me to you. They said you got some interesting rumors usually. Is that true?

Zoner: Well… for the right price. There is always a good rumor. *grinned*

Wylde: I thought Zoners are more part of the “free market” rather than the usual scumbags over House space.

Zoner: Tell me why should I tell a stranger something of value then, eh? *rose his left eyebrow in suspicion* For what I can tell, you could be someone sent to extort this Freeport like how our brothers and sisters suffer in the Edge Worlds.

Wylde: I am nothing of that. *He revealed his plasma pistol with the Navy signs on it* You can trust me. *looked very serious in the Zoner’s eyes*.

Zoner: Libertonian eh? Look pal, we are not doing any shady business here if that’s what you want to hear. We are not hosting any sort of wanted criminals and such. As you saw on the entrance, we only deal with … leftovers of Luxury Foods and Water.

Wylde: Oh? How much of a “leftovers” are these actually?

Zoner: We get a regular shipment once at two weeks from a Freelancer, he bring the stuff from some liner he said. He works aboard that liner on certain occasions. I can assure you everything is legal, we got papers for the stuff. We give them to the refugees, for something in exchange, either a small amount of credits or some services.

Wylde: You basically tell me that you are doing a smuggling ring here with food and water for the poor? Are you insane? Do you want me to bring the god damn LPI over here?

Zoner: Look man, it’s nothing serious, look. *shows a datapad* This is the contract. The Freelancer brings the stuff and he pays some people aboard the Liner for nothing. The money are from what we can gather here locally. And you cannot do that. You don’t have jurisdiction in here. Not really.

Wylde: Like you have your connections, I have mine you fool. Now listen to me. Forget about the price for what you know of value around here and tell me what I want. You are lucky that I am off duty and it’s not my business what you do with your life aboard this station as long as people are not being hurt.

Zoner: No man, I give my word that’s not true. You can ask anyone here and they will tell you that we are really revered here for our duties. *makes a pause* What do you want to know then?

Wylde: Tell me if you heard something peculiar about Liberty lately or something about the Seperatists that tend to cause trouble.

Zoner: Hmm.. well I don’t know anything about Separatists, since they have no business this far and I don’t have eyes and ears too deep inside Liberty or on the other part of the Sector but… there is something interesting that it might poke your attention. *he leaned closer and lowered his tone* There is this rumor about an old DSE facility. It was said they were supposed to do something there. Experimental, perhaps the Navy was included too.

Wylde: That’s the type of info I might need. Go on.

Zoner: The station was suddenly abandoned for some unknown reasons some good years ago. The Junkers came there to scrap it up but I don’t know if they are still around that place. Though Cassini is the turf of the Rogues, even them don’t get near that place.

Wylde: Is there any particular reason? Defenses… don’t tell me it’s some space curse *smirked ironically*

Zoner: Not really a curse but.. it’s pretty crazy. The pilots that come and go –some of them being Rogues but, I didn’t told you that- claimed strange stuff and sighting around that place. Like… weird signals coming and going through the channels. Ships that appear on the scanner but when you get closer you don’t really see them there… Space Ghosts man.

Wylde: Oh.. *laughs* That’s really amusing. So you wanted me to pay for that eh?

Zoner : *sigh* That’s why I don’t really tell anyone, especially to you Libertonians such things, because you are all pompous and on the facts. Thing is… real or not. Something happened there and maybe you can find more info around Cassini.

Wylde: Alright pal *took his datapad and pushed over the screen* Here are 100 SC for your effort. Just feed the refugees eh? I’ll look into this crazy ghost story of yours.

Zoner: Yeah man just be careful. People come and go and said all kinds of tales, just be careful. Oh.. also someone went missing recently in that system. Rogues didn’t claimed anything. Just be careful on your way there. The station is rumored to have some strange EM field around it and could jam your ship. Be careful, you are in quite a dangerous place.

Wylde: I’ll keep an eye open. Thanks for the tips.

Zoner: Why do you need to search such peculiar things anyways, if I may ask?

Wylde: I have my suspicions about the current status of Liberty. At times, it’s like something is off. These Nomads might be connected to it, or something. I am not sure to be frank with you.

Zoner: Hmm yeah, heard some crazy wackos came around Liberty. Foreigners, hit places and left. Rumors say they are Omicroners. Just keep an eye open. I told what I’ve heard.

Wylde: Will do, have a good evening sir.

Pretty much that was it. I took another night to spend over at the Freeport to ponder on the words he said. Perhaps the DSE found something strange in the system that could link them with the Nomads. But those ghost tales are crazy, I never heard of anything before. But hey, that’s the charm of the border and the independent systems’ Freeports. Always a great story to hear off. I will head over at Cassini as soon as I can and I will further my search for relevant information regarding the Nomads, Liberty and other things. It feels like a maze for me, but I’ll surely run into some secrets the Government carefully hid them. I need time.
