Learning to read.

Late at night, when everyone was asleep, I often snuck into father's library. Father had a great library that was packed with all kinds of interesting books. Alot of them were classics, some even dating back to the era of Sol.
Problem was... I could not read.

My family had a strict traditional lifestyle, where no resources were wasted on the education of women. So I snuck one of the books, that I saw Shin's teacher use to teach him how to read, back into my bedroom and tried to figure it out on my own. At night, by candlelight, I would try to decypher the strange markings and during the day I would hide the book under my matress. After a few weeks I was able to read a little on my own and began to smuggle more books into my bedroom. After a year I was able to read a book about the ancient religions of Sol. A year after that I was able to understand Tsun Tzu's Art of War.

Father had many books related to warfare and martial arts. Father always told Shin that a man is not a man if he can not protect his own family. These books suited me well in the years to come.
