I'd second Blodo's suggestion.

With Daumann, Kruger, or ALG, you have the advantage of being allied to an already existing player faction: RepEx with Daumann (I think), and Gateway with Kruger or ALG (plus with ALG, you'd get that beautiful new ship...). Either way, you're engaged with some good pirates and with an active corporate ally.
