I get your point...like, when a drug gets legalized...for a while, there's a spike in use, but after a spell, it levels off & no longer remains an issue.
I'd hypothesize it falls under the "Law of the Forbidden" in that, if something taboo is no longer disallowed, then the desire to exercise the new freedom looses its luster over time.
I hold fast that the original & actual intent of the no swearing rule goes far beyond the elementary arguments presented here in this thread.
As illustrated in my last post, I'm not opposed to easing up on past restrictions here & there, but not a single one of you on the swearing side seem to be willing to compromise.
for example,
If I were to pirate a player & say, "F*ck off c*nt! Pay me or I'll end You!"
Does those two tiny little edits take away from the malice in my characters demand?
