Christopher Thorn

Christopher Thorn was born in the texas system, descended from mixed liberty and rheinland heritage. His father was a rheinland marine, and trained Christopher during his youth in combat tactics.
In the last stretch of the 80 years' war, Thorn's best friend - Kristof Schneider - joined the rhienland military to fight against the gas miner's guild. Thorn signed on with him, and the two went to combat for the same unit.
During an assault on a GMG gas miner, Thorn and Schneider - among other rheinland soldiers - were part of the landing team assigned to sabotaging the mining station from inside. GMG security personnel had been tipped off to the attack, however, and were waiting in ambush for the rheinland soldiers - the resulting battle was a massacre on both sides.
Thorn and Schneider were successful in their attack - planting bombs around the station's reactor core so it could be destroyed remotely once they were off the station - but in the attempt to escape the two were split up. Kristof was captured by GMG forces and shipped to another station serving as a POW camp, while Thorn managed to steal a GMG shuttle to get off the station. Shortly after launching, Thorn saw the bulk of the rheinland fleet ambushed in the nearby cloud as they were preparing for the next stage of the attack. Nearly every Rheinland ship in the fleet was destroyed.

With no carrier to go back to, Thorn had to head for the nearest nuetral system he could find... kusari space. He barely managed to escape capture by GMG patrols several times before making it to new tokyo. Though he made it to his destination alive, the GMG shuttle he had stolen was crippled by explosions within the sigma gas clouds - he sold it to a scrapping facility for just enough credits to secure a small freighter.
Over the next several years, Christopher Thorn worked in kusari as a freelancing trader. He couldnt go back to rheinland as a deserter, and he had no other connections - he had no idea what had become of Kristof Schneider after his capture.

After over a decade, Thorn had acquired enough credits to get a larger ship - something he could really make a fortune in. His only motivation now was to be free of galactic politics, and hopefully strike it rich in the process. At a secondhand shipyard on New Tokyo, he found the ship he would end up flying for the next decade - A firefly class bretonian transport. He dubbed it the tenacity, and spent the next month restoring her to working condition - with the help of the shipyard mechanic, a young girl named Rachel Coriolis.
After getting the ship off the ground, Thorn was offered a job by a shady group of criminals he had never seen nor heard of before. The job was to take a briefcase to a meeting, leave it, and not be seen in the process... simple enough, and they were paying a huge sum of credits for the mission's completion.
It was only after finishing the task that Thorn discovered the briefcase was a bomb, and the meeting was chock-full of Hogosha officials. Before he knew it, all of kusari was after him - everything from police to navy. Luckily kusari wasnt fond of bounty hunters, or he'd have never made it out alive. During his escape, a woman by the name of Mariko Tenaka offered him a safe way out of kusari in exchange for her own quarters on the ship. She gave no other information, but somehow had acquired the access codes to all of kusari's jump gates and trade lanes, effectively securing Thorn's route out of the house.

During the trip to liberty, Thorn had several other crew members sign on with the Tenacity - including an ex mercenary and ex lane hacker. The ship's entrance into liberty was greeted by a fleet of junkers who had caught word of his 'assassination' of the hogosha officials. They welcomed Thorn, his ship, and his crew into their junker "family", teaching him their trades - everything from salvaging operations to black market sales and political manipulation. Ever since then, Thorn has been working as a full-time junker.
