Anyway I really don't understand why would anyone (from a logical point of view) bother with smuggling for profits when the most basic Helium run (Penny -> New London) gives you the same 30mil for way less effort, and less chance of getting stopped... For the return trip just make a short jump to Nottingham and pick up any ores there to ship back to Liberty.

Of course if you are not a scumbag you will leave this easy route for other starting players to make their cash.

As for smuggling, I do it for the mood / playing true to the ID when I'm playing a quasi-lawful / unlawful character but even then it's probably more profitable to find a POB that sells Cardamine and try to sneak that into Manhattan for a quick run instead of bothering to do the full route ...
