He allowed time for delegates to arrive. He mingled with everyone and they all spoke off line to each other as well as the later guests arrived. For now, Doc stayed away from the Scotch. When Wldemar of the TAZ arrived, Doc figured it was time to get things started. He topped off his seltzer and took his place behind the podium to get things started.
"Greetings to you all," he stated, "And thank you for coming. It has been a very long time since we all got together to discuss current events and propose solutions to problems. I figured with so many of us in one area that this was a good time."
He sipped his seltzer, putting the glass down afterward to lay out some of what was on his mind.
"Much has changed. So many of us now find ourselves here in Omicron Theta as Gran Canaria was taken from us." He did well to not show his dislike about it. "It is a touchy subject for us all but I think that is why we find ourselves together. Being under Bretonian rule is to say the least very unappealing.
We now have Pygar. It is not Gran Canaria but with Zoner ingenuity, it could be. OSI moved its operations to Theta for that reason as did Med Force Enterprises. Velvet has a hand in it as well."
He again sipped his seltzer to keep his palate wet.
"I also think that Pygar gives us some concerns when you factor in the presence of house military ships that claim to be passing through or investigating Nomads. We have seen what happens in the past when house authorities get involved. Planet Erie and Gran Canaria are two good examples. I would even dare say that of a Corsair presence as they were hired to secure Omega 49 upon its first discovery only to raise the ire of Bretonian entities. We have the Corsairs as neighbors as we do the Order, the Core and even the Hessians here in the Omicrons and nearby Omegas. For now, things are quiet with our neighbors but that quiet never lasts."
He then motioned toward the TAZ delegation. "While some are not actively living out here, they are visitors and have their own problems and neighbors. Still, they are people who could be of help."
He turned his attention back toward the group as a whole. "Their are even matters involving other groups who are not neighbors and we must deal with in passing. The Gallic Enclave comes to mind and while close but not as close, the Outcasts. I will only say of the Enclave that keeping a medical team on Planet Gaia has kept us at least in a neutral light as I know they like taxing Zoners in the Taus which has also had a heavier presence from Kusari."
"So I will stop here and let others speak on these matters and other things I have overlooked." With that, Doc stepped back to let the Conference officially begin.
