Some here have said to stay independant. Others have said to join a faction. I say that the choice is really up to you, whether you think a faction would fit you better, or whether you'd rather be on your own. I have some characters in factions, others that are independents. It really is up to you, but always realize that the two are not mutually exclusive. A faction will give you support and a good team to work with, so I would recommend at least trying one out. Factions do give you a good understanding of what's going on, and a solid role to play, but joining one isn't necessary to have a good time here.
