Alberto Cruz considered the backlash that Rex suffered by the warden and tried to empathize with the visitor. Rex’s injuries could have been much more severe, as the old man was a capable fighter, even for his age. However, the warden was mentally incapable of focus at that moment and Cruz believed that if he was not in that state, Rex would have died in the dome.
During the conversation, the rest of the Starfleet team secured the facility, checking any additional traps that the warden could have left behind. The corridors were quickly cleaned up, the stench in the dormitories was no more, and the lights returned to a normal operation. Cruz, as most of Starfleet there, did not appreciate doing part of the warden’s job, as the old man was specifically tolerated because of that. Nevertheless, it was necessary so the complex could fulfill its current main function as a center of learning.
Cruz finished the chat with the Starflier, giving him space so he can wander around the facility:
“No problem, Rex. Most of the Maltese around are working on the heavy maintenance that this place needed, they will not bother you unless you need something. Nos vemos.”
