Corsair Capital ships Crushed by the Core!
by Petroula Carvos (Unofficial Corsair News Network)
It started out as a day of pride and glory for the Corsairs as the infamous Deterrence Fleet assembled at Freeport 11 to defend our stake in Omicron Delta against the Core and Outcasts. Due to the recent cold war with the Outcasts over Knossos, tensions were high and the occasional flash of gunfire could be seen as crew of the vessels wrestled with their impatience.
The battle got off to a rough start, our fleet seemed to think that the Core would be approaching from Nauru and were surprised when the core flanked them to the side. Seeing our fleet spread out and in disarray, the Outcasts and Core sat still, no doubt jeering rudely in their ships, as they actually waited for our fleet to reassemble before launching their attack.
Warcrys were exchanged and the initial shots were fired. Your dedicated correspondent staked everything to get as close as possible to the action, without losing life, limb or news report.
Mortar fire rocks a Legate, pride of the Corsairs.
Sadly, our fleet was not prepared, our ships were spread out, leaving our strongest vessels vulnerable to cumulative enemy gunfire. First they took down a Legate, the same ship that you see on the recruitment posters on Crete. They then moved on to cut our finest ships down one by one.
The chaos of the battlefield makes it hard to tell friend from foe.
As our ships were being crushed by the superior co-operation between the Core and Outcasts, one lonely bomber by the name of "Nox" attempted to engage the enemy alone, purportedly critically damaging one of the enemy capitals before his bomber was eventually disabled. Due to the military secrets act, I was not able to legally obtain, or steal, in-flight shots from the wreck of the bomber. My attempts to close in mid-combat resulted in me being fired upon by an Outcast vessel for wandering too close to the battlezone. Rest assured, I escaped shaken, but unharmed.
The Core and Outcasts then left for Nauru leaving their fighter squadrons to finish off their work.
Much to everyone's surprise, there were corsair snubs that survived the fight, demonstrating the tenacity that Deterrence has become famous for. Unable, to take on the surviving capital ships in their smaller craft, the call came out from a Deterrence Executive waiting on Freeport 11 for the craft to retreat. The battle was lost.

Thankfully, due to the sheer amount of activity prompted by this battle, all surviving escape pods from both sides of the conflict were recovered by the Zoners and returned to their respective sides. This correspondent thanks the Zoners of Freeport 11 for their support in that endeavor.
After the battle I attempted to contact Executor Ravenna Nagash regarding the results of the battle. I was unsuccessful, but I did manage to get a statement from Eros Galanis, who is rumoured to be the second in command of Deterrence. He was injured in the battle and was being held in the Freeport Hospital.
"This is definitely going to happen again. There will be another battle with the Outcasts and the Core sometime in the future. As such, we will look at holding more training for our pilots and captains. Furthermore, there have been rumours of possible Nomad activity and we intend to be ready for it."
I don't know those of you in my readership, but I for one am certainly looking forward to it.
