if pobs werent eyesores, annoying, and the complete antithesis of good player interaction and game design they wouldnt be hunted down. if you dont hunt them down IMMEDIATELY they become deathstars that are impossible to siege with the current server population as people pile multiple pobs together and surround them with a dozen platforms
theyre fun for no one besides the players building them. do not take that out of context. that one pob that someone decided to siege was fun for that single player. no one else. it has the potential to be, and always will end up becoming a no-fly-zone for the enemies of that faction, just a point in space you cant be in around 5km+ of because its firing cerberus turrets at you. and because the base was only fun for the single person who built it, you get this sort of interaction from every single one of them. ive run out of fingers to count the times ive seen this from pob-brains
ignoring all the fucking issues with pobs and the absolute misery they cause when used by the wrong people, they bring this out of every other player who builds them because theyre a massive time/money sink that no one else but that single player (or for longer surviving pobs, that single group) who built them benefits from. in a server where every other loss is minor and otherwise ephemeral, pobs are a permanent, tangible, substantial loss in time and credits
they should not exist and should have come down with a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and been smothered to death when they came out in 4.85/4.86 or whenever.
PS: or maybe ree*es shouldnt have driven off the person doing the pob rework that might have actually made them enjoyable, but whatever
You can make rules and mechanisms that keep pobs from being eyesores.
You can make rules and mechanisms that keep pobs from being death stars and no fly zones.
With or without technical changes to the plugin, although as far as I know Zentor was also working on some tools I suggested in this respect.
Unfortunately the 2 things disco has always been unable to do is have staff that are capable of making working rules and mechanisms for disco, and a discussion about anything that doesnt devolve into a meme fest like "delete pobs delete pobs delete pobs" or "conspiracy conspiracy conspiracy" or "all problems are caused by the fact that its an old game so why bother trying to work on any problems".
