PvP is fascinating. It is a core component of a game that people strive to excel at, without overdoing it.
The lane from WP to the Cali JG is a problem spot. It's not entirely fair to point the finger at the lawful factions alone. Solitary lawful LFers have had to face a gunship and bomber; lone VHFers have been attacked by TWO gunboats in the same spot. There is still the odd OC dessie around there. Order idiots have been known to "raid" WP and refuse advice to clear off.
There are three solutions.
One, everyone mature about five to ten years overnight. Check who is actually fighting and ask, or better yet decide yourself, if you are needed. If you're in a big ship, show a little courtesy. This does happen more.
Two. Avoid place like NY. It's a breath of fresh air leaving there. Anyone expecting to not get swarmed in the centre of the civilised galaxy should know better. That's what jumpholes are for.
Three. Accept that minor annoyances like this happen.
I don't entirely agree with limiting it 1 versus 1. What's wrong with 2 or 3 LFers taking on a VHF or a bomber? This allows some fluidity to the game regarding tactics and encourages co operative play.
In time the people who swarmed you will realise that there is probably more fun to losing a fight heroically or doing the sensible thing and running for your life than making someone else blow up. No one really gains respect for kills, not in my book anyway, and a enemy who allows a man to run for his life shows a sense of mercy and compassion that is probably truer to real life than any sense of triumph achieved through a kill.
