If earlier I could call any fight a sparring that had the goal of having fun for both sides, now at times it seems more like a war of annihilation. Aegis, possessing its terrible power, could have the goal of containing the most “dangerous” representatives of Sirius or an anchor on the scales of balance. But I see that this ship is starting to tilt, and this is growing into a problem.
There is a certain category of people (not so small) who meet you only in battle.
As a completely unbiased third party, I would say that this is a problem separate from Aegis and more pertaining to the PVP clique overall. PVP skill is something heavily gated in this community with private servers, anonymous teams, and a lot of ''skill ganking''. Everybody seems to talk about numbers when it comes to balancing, the big boogey-man. I hardly see people talking about ship balance or more importantly skill balance. The most problematic issue is when certain people start messaging PVP competent people in your faction with ''Why are you playing with X, they are really bad in PVP, you should come play with us or play Y.'' Or various similar attempts at peer pressure with the obvious tactic of getting the competent PVP player out of their current group and into the clique. And let's face it, everybody likes to be in the winning team with PVP pros curb-stomping everyone. It essentially allows a group of people to dictate any fight because they also have ships in every faction. Another issue is when people start to swap ships to chase you across multiple factions/IDs over periods of time.
The only solution for the last two points is for Staff to have a close pulse on the overall community. And for the PVP people to have the enlightened self-interest of understanding that long-term this is not a viable strategy for them as well.
Fortunately, some steps are being made in the right direction with the snub PVP server becoming public now and so on.
Onto AEGIS specifically - the issues with the state of PVP balance should not be conflated with the group in my opinion. I've personally had good interactions with AEGIS despite playing Corsairs. I've been beaten plenty of times but what can I say - the guys are good PVPers and have invested time in getting there, which should be rewarded.
As for RP, these things take time to develop and grow. It would be interesting to see this faction over time and individual characters form. As a PVP-centric group, the only advice that I can suggest is for AEGIS to have two approaches in terms of interactions based on whether the enemy group is also PVP oriented or not. Most casuals/casual groups will rather stop playing than sit in Conn for hours to get better. I know that maybe puts a disproportionate amount of responsibility on you (and perhaps even unfairly as you invested time to 'git good'').
Good luck on your application and see you in the Omicrons.
