Darkstar one was meant to be the 'new' replacement for Freelancer.
It failed.

Jumpgate:Evolution sounds like all you do is shoot things. Missing key parts that makes Freelancer good.

X3 is singleplayer and trying to replicate the sheer scale of that game with all the details in multiplayer would be a massive achievement so it is rather unlikely to happen.

EVE is a different type of game. Automated movement etc can be very unattractive to some and the fact you have to pay for it is even worse for most people.

All in all, Freelancer is a classic game that frankly may never be improved upon unless it is done by those who love it, the community. Disco and other mods are a step in the right direction but till we start fiddling around with the basic coding of the game, we are merely adding on things.
