I dont like the idea of a docking ring that can be shut down,
but perhaps jumpgates should have a disableable system similar to tradelanes that requires more time and effort to scramble.
Also, why have totally destroyable stations?
why not make it so that after taking a certain immense amount (the kind only a co-operative player op could inflict) of damage a station becomes undockable for a limited time, and takes on a damaged/burning animation, looses its weapons, and drops a **ton** of loot.
Eventually it repairs itself, possibly with appropriate lifter/repair ship animations. :)
