Seeing as how we have Mk.II versions of the houses' light and heavy fighters, as well as the Borderworlds, Pirate, Corsair, CSV, and Civilian Light fighters, perhaps something can be done for the remaining vanilla Heavy Fighters.
Now, simply bumping them up to VHF levels doesn't make much sense, as in most cases VHFs already exist for those categories. So, what to do with them?
How about Light Bombers.
Give them the just a single Torp slot, 2 Class 10 gun slots, 2 or 3 (depending on existing model) Class 9 slots, the smaller of the current Bomber powerplants, maneuvering just below their VHF counterparts, and only slightly more regen than the VHFs. Slightly more armor than the VHFs as well.
Pricing could be something like this: Cost = (price of Bomber - Price of VHF)/5 + Price of VHF. So, say the bomber is 4 Million and the VHF is 1.9 Million. Light Bomber price would be (4000000-1900000)/5 + 1900000=2100000/5 + 1900000=420000+1900000=2320000.
This is just a possibility on pricing. Other numbers could be used as well.
The ideal role for these Light Bombers would be for intercepting a gunboat or gunship. They can still be killed easily enough by fighters, and don't really have the power needed to take on the larger ships, unless they work in larger groups than would be required for regular Bombers.
So, let me know what you think. Would this be a good idea, or would there be a better use for those models?
Also, what names would be good for them? I was thinking Main Gauche for the Mk.II Stiletto, but I'm not sure what the others would be called. Perhaps Kestrel for the Mk.II Falcon if that's not already taken.
