The Tale of Derkylos (Explorer and Scientific Researcher)

While his roots lie in Liberty, Derkylos will not admit this fact-he will claim to come from practically anywhere else in Sirius, depending on his mood.
After his parents went missing when he was in his mid-teens, he bought himself a simple ship with his remaining funds and entered space to become a trader of goods in order to make enough cash to sustain himself.
He ran several routes for the Liberty government, making a tidy income. However, his first misgivings on the ability of the Liberty government to safeguard its citizens began several months before he actually left. He heard rumours of atrocities committed in the interests of security and progress. He also found it increasingly difficult to operate as an independent trader within Liberty itself-at one point, he was even attacked by a DSE convoy while hauling gold from Brettonia. The DSE pilot claimed that the subsequent destruction of Derkylos rhino was the result of an unfortunate collision. The embargo with Rheinland only served to make his life more difficult, preventing him from transferring diamonds via the safer route through Liberty space, and forcing him to use the more dangerous routes through the Omegas.
The final straw came when one day, while hauling goods to the Texas system, he observed a Liberty naval vessel destroy a civilian transport for no apparent reason. At this point, he decided to leave Liberty and start anew elsewhere. Unwilling to settle in another house after the fiasco of Liberty, he negotiated the purchase of a Series Z Sabre from the lane hackers, and proceded to travel the border worlds, looking for a place he could call home.
He found acceptance among the communities of zoners that he met, and he respected their views concerning independence from a centralized authority. Eventually, having made enough money through hauling goods from place to place for numerous employers, he managed to negotiate the purchase of a second-hand Kusari Explorer from a representative of the GMG. Several zoner scientists, recognizing the potential for research that this wide-ranging vessel and captain could offer, managed to convince him to take them with him and to allow them to install an advanced set of probes on the ship, as well as a well-outfitted laboratory for them to work in.
The scientists seem to get on quite well with him, despite their leader being the complete opposite of their hard-drinking, slovenly captain, and have almost become a second family to Derkylos. One of the scientists has strong ties to a powerful and rich group of zoners, and is lobbying them in an attempt to gain access to a larger, more heavily armoured ship so that they may expand their research into the more remote regions of the sector. This is sure to reinforce relationships between Derkylos and the researchers, as he is always interested in the new toys they aquire.

Dramatis Personae (ie: who youre likely to find yourself interacting with)

Derkylos (no surname known) (see above for background), captain of the ship, also uses his name as the radio callsign, medium build, tends to dress scruffily, (check my avatar for a mugshot), terribly protective of his own life and those of his crew, above all else (even their research, which can cause conflict occasionally), not very well educated, but always interested in new experiences. He is also very fond of strong drink.
Has a rather odd accent (has been commented on once ingame already), a mix of practically everything, due to the extended period of time he has spent flying around the sector.
Still searching for a true home, but rather an oddball, so it may be a futile quest.
Also trying to find out what happened to his parents, and why they mysteriously disappeared, believes Liberty may be connected in some way.

Winston Robertson; chief science officer and second in command should Derkylos be incapacitated (not necessarily due to being in combat), tall, blonde, rather severe man, always immaculately attired, does not drink, does not smoke and does not take drugs of any type-as Andrew Griffiths put it, a very unhealthy man. He has devoted his life to scientific research, first on Planet Cambridge, but moved to Gran Canaria when Brettonia went to war with Kusari, as he didnt want his research to be used to kill people (has very strong morals concerning killing).
Speaks with an upper-class British accent, you can almost hear him punctuating his scentences correctly.
Working on numerous questions concerning life in Sirius, and the galaxy at large, he never has less than 5 projects ongoing at any one time, and Derkylos travels allow him as much space as he needs to work on these projects.

James Carlson; the aforementioned scientist with ties to the rich zoners, a nondescript man, if you entered a room with him, he would be the last person you would see. He reinforces this image with his shy, retiring attitude. A real geek so to speak, spends most of his time in his lab, poring over his research. Has an almost obsessive attitude towards research, putting it above all else, including personal safety, this is where he conflicts with Derkylos.
Quiet and shy, you are unlikely to have the opportunity to speak to this member of the crew, but when he does speak, he has a fairly nondescript accent.
Content to follow Winstons lead in most of the research projects. However, is most interested in Nomads (which the crew have only recently encountered).
