(Aimed at the opening post)
Sorry to be a downer on this one. But the commodities dont do anything for me, haven't seen any of the above in a Sci fi before.

Donut's hmm well First up I'm from the nobility so I wouldn't touch that sort of food its not in the fine dinning category of life or healthy. I'm not stereotypical and I'm a soldier not an officer an I don't think I've seen any of the boys in the bretonian police force eating donuts. So your sales would be seriously limited or non existant in bretonian space. As its been over 100 years since we have lived in our solar system I would also say that we wouldnt have the ingredients to make donuts, the recipe probably long forgotten and we would have probably moved onto tastier treats (dont think it suits this sorta game unforetunately)

Eye patch and treasure map no I just say no.
We would probably have the technology to fix eyes or have posthetic eyes and we call maps out here star charts the only thing that resembles treasure is a fleet full of nasty _____ (enter faction name) Stars planets a black hole that someone mistook for a jump hole to a poor explorers demise and old debris from many a lovely war. Fraid none of them sound remotely worth making a map for (except in navigation)

Rum.
Well I'm pretty sure miles from our original home we would have different crops and plants so ya wouldnt quite get rum and the proccess of making it would have a 99% chance of being lost. (1% is left for historians and keepers of knowledge that might by some chance have found the information)

I reckon its a lovely idea and would have been a good lark might be good for other servers as its a great idea but my perception of what seems to be happening with discovery is its a true through an through to most sci fi and discovery an freelancer style seems to be aimed for realism in the future i think the pirates of the carribean slash stereotypical police would clash with discovery an freelancer theme.

Good job though I think you could go somewere with it you could create a cops an robbers/ pirates themed server an you would have it nailed.
