I was one of the people on the dev chat that disagreed with it the most. But I am a human being and therefore have the option of changing my mind.
I like to be open to new ideas. The alternative that I suggested would mean people would have to shoot their bases to disable docking for everyone.
One way or another, people are afraid that it will be abused. They are afraid it would be them that won't be able to dock because of someone.
But after I let it rest for some time and looked at it again, I must say ...
If someone abuses this, it's -exactly- the same as if he attacked out of roleplay. And if the malicious player has the intent to do it, administrator intervention is neccessary in both cases.
Another note: if someone abuses this, if someone abuses anything, I don't know what about you, but - I don't want such people playing on the server.
Playing here is a privilege, not a right. If someone abuses this privilege, he should have it revoked so he / she doesn't limit the freedom of other people.
I say YES. Yes, let's try this with maximum restrictions possible. Guard IDs, implementing both /attack and /neutral command and perhaps even the time limit.
Let's -try- if it works. One day - the public beta will be released. After the mod is considered relatively bugless and stable, it would be time to try and test this.
I'd like to give it a try.
EDIT:
Regarding the amount of work for server administrators:
If we do not introduce any such measure, you might be looking at a lot of reports of "Speeddock to avoid RP" type...
but if the same amount of people keep speeddocking to avoid RP - you're looking at a pile of reports anyway, it seems. And I don't like when you have to put up with piles of unneccessary paperwork.
That's why I want to test it ... I'd like to find out if there's more people speeddocking to avoid RP or people who attack for revenge, out of pure spite and out of roleplay. Yes, the latter is probably a worse offence. But it's better to get rid of the serious offenders and not having to bother with minor rulebreaking, eh?
I only report people if they completely fail at understanding what they're doing wrong. Or don't care. Docking to avoid RP is not as bad as attacking out of roleplay, yes. Docking to avoid RP cannot directly hurt other players.
But then comes the question - if you don't like to put up with any kind of trouble at all, allow people to dock to avoid RP rather than abusing the command?
