Totaly not possible to overlook that, like Battleships docking on Battleships and such.
Show a bit of imagination, Why cant it be a wild and uncontained stream of Anti-Matter sprayed out like a hosepipe or somthing like that?
A bit of Diversity to weapons and such would be nice.
Could be the special Forward gun of a new Frigate Class ship for whichever faction as a "Boarding ship". Give it very heavy amour (to survive the caps its designed to attack) and a small number (3/4) of Gunboat turrets for defence.
The Ships main goal would be to get in clsoe and Incinerate a hole in the hull of its target to which it deploys its boarding crew.
Its a very specialised Anti-Cap ship that needs to be suported to work well. A skilled pilot would utilise the opposing caps Turret blind spots.
Lack of Heavy Shield (Frigate Class remember) and only a small number of Turrets means it is countered by Bombers or Gunboats who can avoid its primary gun.
It would be one of those 'Teamwork' ships that seems to be all the rage.
